Biomedical Research

Project Overview
Below is a brief synopsis of the research projects I was involved with during my time at the DoD Hearing Center of Excellence.
International Outcomes Inventory of Cochlear Implants (IOI-CI)
Validation Study
The IOI-CI Validation Study was designed to examine people's thoughts, feelings, beliefs, and attitudes towards their experiences with cochlear implant(s). Questions focused on whether or not patients were able to communicate more effectively and if their quality of life improved after receiving a cochlear implant.
Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM)
Quality/Process Improvement
Progressive Tinnitus Management was developed by the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR) over 10 years ago. PTM has helped numerous veterans and active duty service members learn to manage their condition. Using a mixed methods approach, we interviewed patients who had used the PTM workbook to gather feedback on the sections they found most helpful, what they would change, and what they would add in the future. The data collected from these interviews was used to inform changes to existing materials and help researchers develop new materials for future patients.
Acute Noise Induced Hearing Loss (aNIHL)
Retrospective Chart Review
Acute Noise Induced Hearing is easily treatable if diagnosed shortly after one's exposure to loud noise. This study was designed to examine coding and treatment protocols to help clinicians treat aNIHL more effectively.
